Alberta construction workers got hurt.
Attention Banner
The number of these incidents happening to first-year construction workers is alarmingly high.
More than half of all injuries happening on construction sites are happening to workers in their first year on the job.

First-year workers were injured by:

  • Being struck by an object that was swinging, slipping or falling.
  • Straining or impacting their back or spine.
  • Falling from ladders, steps or stairs.

Why are first-year workers particularly vulnerable?

  • Limited experience with performing demanding tasks safely, while also getting used to a new team and a new job site.
  • Limited time for pre-work briefings, follow-up questions, on-site supervision and technique correction, which are critical to new workers.
  • Influence from experienced workers who sometimes side-step safety protocols.

As an industry, company and team, we can prevent first-year worker injuries.
